Paper › Edge

Handmade or mould-made stock: an invitation, a certificate, a fine-press cover. Softer and more expensive-looking than a tear.

How it is madeA boundary of three low-frequency sines with no teeth at all, because a deckle is formed wet against a mould and wanders without breaking. The thing that separates it from a tear is the THINNING, so the sheet colour continues past the boundary as a gradient band fading to nothing over about 9% of the height, with fine fibres through it. The cast shadow had to be pushed a full amplitude clear of the edge and halved: sitting where it was, directly under the boundary, it covered the feather and the whole edge came back as a soft grey band.
