How it is madeA charted knitting motif built the way it is knitted: a 27 by 15 grid of stitches on a 16 by 13 cell, wider than tall because stockinette gauge is. The star is a rule rather than a hand-filled chart: a solid centre diamond of radius 2, four straight arms one stitch wide out to 4, four diagonal arms one stitch wide out to 3. The first rule filled the arms three stitches wide and the motif came out as a solid diamond, so the arms are deliberately single stitches. Every stitch is drawn as the V a knit stitch makes, which gives the field real fabric texture at full size.
