Seigaiha waves

Ornament › Geometric

A full-bleed Japanese wave ground behind a title, a menu, a packaging panel or a card. It tiles, so two copies side by side join without a seam.

How it is madeWhole circles of radius 72 on the seigaiha packing (2R along a row, alternate rows shifted R sideways and 0.55R down) drawn top row first, so each row buries all but the crown of the one above. Three rings per circle in dark blue, cream and mid blue: the two inner rings are dropped because nothing within half a radius of a centre is ever visible, which is provable from the packing rather than a guess. Circles that reach the edge are clipped in JS, since nothing clips a stamp at paint time.
